Whole-Genome De Novo Sequencing of the Lignin-Degrading Wood Rot Fungus Phanerochaete chrysosporium (ATCC 20696)
Phanerochaete chrysosporium (ATCC 20696) has a catabolic ability to degrade lignin. Here, we report whole-genome sequencing used to identify genes related to lignin modification. We determined the 39-Mb draft genome sequence of this fungus, comprising 13,560 predicted gene models. Gene annotation provided crucial information about the location and function of protein-encoding genes.
متن کاملExpression analysis of extracellular proteins from Phanerochaete chrysosporium grown on different liquid and solid substrates
White-rot fungi secret a large number of hydrolytic and oxidative enzymes for degradation of lignocellulosic material. The sequencing of the genome of the white-rot fungus Phanerochaete chrysosporium has facilitated the characterization of its complete extracellular proteome. P. chrysosporium was grown on liquid medium, containing glucose, cellulose or wood chips as the carbon source, and also ...
متن کاملP450ome of the white rot fungus Phanerochaete chrysosporium: structure, evolution and regulation of expression of genomic P450 clusters.
The model white rot fungus Phanerochaete chrysosporium has the extraordinary ability to degrade (to CO(2)) lignin and detoxify a variety of chemical pollutants. Whole genome sequencing of this fungus has revealed the presence of the largest P450ome in fungi comprising approx. 150 P450 genes, most of which have unknown function. On the basis of our genome-wide structural and evolutionary analysi...
متن کاملIs the hope for a cellulosic biofuel a lot of rot?
Compared with the small amount of fermentable sugars in corn kernels, lignocellulose obtained from agricultural waste products or non-food crops is an abundant natural resource that can be used for the production of ethanolbased biofuel. However, the rigid structure linking cellulose and hemicellulose to lignin, while rather handy for plants, restricts the availability of fermentable sugars nec...
متن کاملMetadata Analysis of Phanerochaete chrysosporium Gene Expression Data Identified Common CAZymes Encoding Gene Expression Profiles Involved in Cellulose and Hemicellulose Degradation
In literature, extensive studies have been conducted on popular wood degrading white rot fungus, Phanerochaete chrysosporium about its lignin degrading mechanisms compared to the cellulose and hemicellulose degrading abilities. This study delineates cellulose and hemicellulose degrading mechanisms through large scale metadata analysis of P. chrysosporium gene expression data (retrieved from NCB...
